For ten consecutive years, the Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department has presented its “Excellence in Reclamation Awards” to mining companies in New Mexico.

The awards recognize reclamation for regulated and unregulated mined lands in New Mexico.  Award nominations are accepted in different categories depending on the size of the mine and the nature of the operation and its resulting disturbance. 

Award winners for 2005 were Molycorp, Inc. and St. Cloud Mining Company.  Molycorp received the award for advancing the science of reclamation through application and study of geotechnical stability at its Goathill North rock pile.  St. Cloud Mining Company was presented with an award for abandoned mine land reclamation efforts at its Lake Valley Phase I project.
