Environment
The NMMA works hard to protect New Mexico's environment. Before any soil is moved, we conduct a variety of engineering studies to ensure that we are moving forward in an appropriate manner.
Mining is regulated by the state and federal governments and we take their regulations very seriously. We develop the necessary long-term plans that include mining processes and also reclamation goals for the land. Additionally, we prepare Environmental Impact Statements for state and federal review, and we also pursue the proper permits required to mine in the state.
Our organization consistently addresses environmental issues at the state and federal level. We make a point to address environmental issues at our quarterly board meetings and annual conference.
Safety Did you know that there has been a 46% decrease in injuries in U.S. mines since 1992? This impressive statistic can be attributed to the important safety procedures that have been established in the mining industry over the past 14 years.
The safety of our members is the number one priority of the New Mexico mining industry. Mines and their affiliates consistently review safety procedures and conduct safety exercises to ensure that members are safe. We are committed to mine safety and to the continuing development of effective accident prevention programs.
The NMMA works with the National Mining Association (NMA), the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), and the State Mine Inspector to stay abreast of safety issues that affect the industry.
.
Our organization honors companies that work hard to promote safety among its members.
